What EYEJ means to me by Ron Miller (EYEJ Impact 25 Youth Council Advisor)
Hi, my name is Ron Miller, I am 23 years old and live in Cleveland, Ohio in the Glenville area. I live with my grandma and my sister and I have two brothers, two sisters, a stepbrother and a stepsister. I work at Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital. I am going through some hard times. For example, I am my mother’s firstborn and I was abused by her and dealing with my brother going to court. I really try to take care of my grandma, my nephew and my mother. I would like to go to college sometime in the near future. My focus area for the EYEJ Impact 25 Youth Council is Toxic Stress.
Toxic Stress to me is when a child experiences strong, request and prolonged pain such as physical and emotional abuse and chronic neglect. It can cause mental illness and create burdens to a family without much support from adults. I joined EYEJ because of all of things I have seen in my life and know that I can help others that are afraid and scared to speak up. Everyone has a voice.
The best experience I ever had while working with EYEJ on it’s mission was when I found out that I was not the only one that wants to see change in our home and community.
I also have enjoyed getting to know everyone. We choose to speak for the people that are afraid and don’t have a voice. Here’s little description about everyone:
-Chantal Brown – she is a person that is cool and a person you want to be by your side
-Corrin Cooper – she’s a person that you can trust and can tell her anything that is hurting you.
-Daniel Lynch – is a person that you can come too when you have a hard time with you home or work and is very honest
-Frank Austin – he’s a person that you would like to have as your older brother and will tell you right from wrong
-Jerald King – he’s a person that you want to have as your friend and he’ll support you
-Mallory Wilks – she’s a person you want to have as your big sister, and has a big heart
-Maranda Priah – is a person that you want to have as your classmate and to do homework together and have fun together
-Zia Durnin – she’s a person you can enjoy the outdoor with and you want to have come to your school to speak
-Tony Hoskins – is a person that can tell you a lot about sports such as football and is cool to be around
-Sophia Higginbottom – you want to have her as your teacher and mentor, she will show you a lot of love
-Mai Moore – is a person that will always have your back and you can talk to her about anything
-Me – Ron Miller is a person that you want to have in your family and as a friend, I will care, love and be there when you need someone to talk too day or night
My value and what I love about EYEJ is that we bring together all young adults from all over Cleveland, Ohio. What inspired me to get engaged with EYEJ is I get to speak out for young boys and men that are going through hard times. I have little brothers and sisters to look after but how can we hold accountable brothers and sisters to look after others when there are many killings everywhere. I know because I feel and am the same and this is what inspired me to give my contribution to EYEJ.
EYEJ is ready and willing to make a better world and community so that we can be ready for the future. The only way though we’re going to do this is if we all stop the killing, raping and treating each other wrong. The police are killing black people and blacks are killing black people and white killing white. This all needs to stop and that has to start with us because if we don’t stop right now, it is just going to keep going on and on and then kids are going be doing the same because they see us do it. We have to all change for the safety of our kids. If we don’t there will not be safe place for our kids. We are all one and we are all family because one for one and one for all.
LOVE LOVE IS WHAT WE HAVE FOR EVERYONE AND OTHERS
POWER IS WHAT COMES FROM HEART AND SOUL AND SPIRIT
FAITH IS WHAT WE HAVE IN WHAT WE WANT TO SEE NOW OR IN THE FUTURE
TRUST IS WHAT EVERYONE IN YOUR FAMILY THAT HAS YOUR BACK THROUGH GOOD TIMES AND BAD TIMES AND UPS AND DOWNS
CARING IS THAT YOU CARE ABOUT SOMEONE VERY MUCH THAT YOU WILL PROTECT THEM
SUPPORT IS WHEN YOU SUPPORT THE ONES THAT YOU LOVE SO MUSH
HOPE IS WHAT WE HOPE TO MAKE OUR COMMUNITY A SAFE PLACE
KIND IS WHAT YOU SHOW SOMEONE SOME RESPECT
JOY IS WHAT WE JOY WHEN ARE COMING TOGETHER AS ONE AND AS A FAMILY AND COMMUNITY
