Dear Cleveland,

I need you to stand up. I need you to stretch your legs and get to the front of the pack. I’m a bit tired of you following every other city’s motives and movements and just going along because, well, that movement is already a national thing.  Why can’t it start here?!?

Specifically, I’m talking about your youth, of which I am a part. I’ve watched them rise up recently in order for their voices to be heard around the country. Yes, they are making waves and their ideas are spreading but just imagine if it wasn’t just them talking. How much farther could their shouts be heard if it wan’t just a select group of high schoolers but their entire city shouting as well? Shouting for change, yelling against injustice, screaming for reform and demanding equality.

I know what your youth are capable of and I know their opinions and ideas are strong. I know they have something important to say. They have followed other teen movements which are currently making change around the world but it’s for them to start movements of their own that can spread around the country too. They can make change on their own, but they can make even more change if their entire community backs them and gives them platforms to rise to the top.

Support your youth Cleveland. Help them rise.

Sincerely,
Rachel
