Dear Cleveland,

I love living here, I’ve had some amazing experiences and have countless wonderful memories. However, there are many issues that seem to just be kicked under the rug.

Access to education should be equal for all, but it isn’t. where you live and your socioeconomic status determine the type and quality of education you receive. Why do I receive a quality, private school education when another girl like me ½ mile down the road receives a subpar education? People can’t even live in Cleveland proper without worrying if they will receive a quality education. Lack of funding and a shortage of teachers plagues Cleveland’s unjust school system. Graduation rates are some of the lowest in the country. Dropout rates are on the rise. To make matters worse, test scores barely meet the national average. Ignorance has furthered this issue. Wealthy cities turn their back on struggling communities and government seems to know only how to cut rather than expand. Cleveland, can you focus on equal access to education and give every student in each place the same change for success?

Sincerely,

Grace
